Introduction

Equipment is now available to permit all luminaires in a space to be powered by normal power and controlled by the existing room controls under normal operation, but with selected emergency luminaires converted to an emergency power source when required. This equipment is rated as UL924 compliant, meets section 101 of the NFPA code, and can function in a variety of different modes. These devices can be used to bypass a control device such as a switch or dimmer permitting normal/emergency lighting to be controlled with other lighting equipment within a space, but then to converted to full-on emergency circuit when required.
